San Remo New Product Award
Aim
The Award recognises a businesses best new product developed for a selected target market.
Criteria
Business is a South Australian food or beverage business that produces finished food products.
Product must have been launched in the market in the 2007/08 financial year.
Businesses must supply product samples for the judging panel to assess.
Businesses must select one product only. If it is from a product range include one specific flavour.
Evidence of sales.
Questions
1. Describe your product in 50 words or less - include name, its sensory qualities, whether fresh or frozen, shelf life, pack specifications, pricing etc.
2. Why did you develop and launch this product? What market or consumer opportunity did you see? How did you take account of consumer tastes and preferences in developing the product?
3. What technical challenges, if any did you encounter in developing the product, recipe formulation, packaging or processing etc?
4. How did you come to choose the physical packaging for the product? What are the benefits that it offers to the consumer/user?
5. What do you think is the standout in the branding and packaging impact of this product?
6. Which key features do you believe make the product a unique offering for the market?
7. What date was your new product launched into the market?
8. What percentage of growth occurred over the last 12 months as a result of the new product initiative?
Assessment
This Award is assessed by the judging panel using a product evaluation process and does not require an on-site interview.
The process includes assessment of the following:
Sensory – taste, appearance, aroma, flavour and texture.
Packaging – design, branding, appropriateness, impact and labelling.
Market potential – pricing, target market positioning, product name and commercial success potential.
Convenience – handling, culinary preparation, storage and lifestyle.
Nutritional profile – health, product category and positioning.
Originality – unique appeal, market offering and differentiation from competitors.
