Premier's Food Awards announced
Premier Mike Rann says South Australian food producers are leading the way by promoting healthy choices, organic produce and sustainable farming. In announcing the winners of the 11th annual awards, the Premier said it was outstanding that more than half of the winners having a strong connection to the environment and the production of clean, green produce. “Our winners are innovative and forward thinking businesses who have done a lot of hard work to get to attain this recognition,” Mr Rann said. The nine award winners include a producer with a focus on biodynamic farming, one is developing strategies to help farmers cope better with drought and another has introduced a new range of healthy fruit snacks for school children. Finalists announced for 2008 Awards
The finalists have been announced for this year’s Premier’s Food Awards. The finalist come from every corner of the state - the city, Adelaide Hills, Limestone Coast, Eyre Peninsula and Riverland – and have all been recognised for outstanding achievement and excellence in categories ranging from new products, innovation, export, workforce and environmental sustainability. Established businesses such as B.-d. Farm Paris Creek and Barossa Fine Foods have again been named as finalists, with newcomers Mayura Station and Spencer Gulf and West Coast Prawn Fishermen’s Association joining the Awards as finalists for the first time. The winners of the Premier’s Food Awards will be announced on 14 November 2008 at the new Goyder Pavilion, Adelaide Showground. The evening will be a green themed spectacular, focusing on the environment and with a green cuisine menu exclusively design by Simon Bryant from Hilton Adelaide. Other finalists include Agri Exchange, AqaOyster, Almond Co, Beerenberg, Fruit Wise, Robern Menz, Humbugz Honey, Pendleton Estate, Adelaide Showground Farmers Market, SA Freight Council, Bushmin Farmed Rabbits, Tutto Pasta, Careme Traditional Pastry, Meatpak, Mitani Product and Richard Gunner’s Fine Meats. Launch of the Premier's Food Awards 2008
The eleventh annual Premier’s Food Awards have gone ‘green’ in 2008 and are now open for applications, with all South Australian finished food and beverage businesses being encouraged to ‘turn over a new leaf’ and enter. Agriculture, Food and Fisheries Minister, Rory McEwen says the ‘green’ twist this year will be the focus of the Awards theme - ‘Growth’. “We will be helping the SA food industry to start thinking more ‘green’ in order to play a leading role in helping to reduce the effects of climate change,” Mr McEwen said. “Some of the measures being encouraged include purchasing fresh, local produce, using safe alternatives to chemicals, installing water recycling facilities and using recyclable packaging materials,” Mr McEwen said.
