Search for members of SA food industry who weave ‘magic’

The search is on for members of South Australia’s food industry who do a bit of ‘magic’ in their work.

‘Celebrate the Magic’ is the theme of the 2009 SA Premier’s Food Awards being launched this evening at Norwood by Paul Caica, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Fisheries.

“Highlighting the many success stories in our State’s food and beverage industry, this prestigious annual food event recognises outstanding achievement and excellence,” Mr Caica said.

“High achievers – whether they are individuals or companies – are awarded in categories for innovation, export, workforce development, new products, sustainable achievements, young leadership and services to industry.

“And this year, there is a new Value Chain Award.

“During the residency of our recent Adelaide Thinker in Residence, Professor Andrew Fearne, there was a strong focus on helping local businesses better understand value chain thinking. This new Award will recognise and foster innovative practices in this field.”

Now in its 12th year, the SA Premier’s Food Awards continue to showcase the leading businesses that have helped establish our state as a producer of safe and high quality food and beverage products that are globally sought.

Managed by the South Australian Food Centre - as part of PIRSA Agriculture, Food and Wine - the Awards support the food industry’s efforts to achieve the SA Food Plan target to grow the finished food sector by 8 per cent per year.

Agrifood currently contributes $11.5 billion to the SA economy, and accounts for 143,000 jobs.

The presentation gala dinner, when this year’s award winners will be announced, will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre on Friday, 6 November and will feature a specially designed menu of local SA produce and beverages.
