Winner: Dover Fisheries

Dover Fisheries is one of Australia’s largest abalone processors and exporters with 92% of sales being to export markets such as China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, USA and Canada. Established in 1976, with 14 staff and up to 60 during seasonal periods, Dover Fisheries has successfully introduced a non chemical, natural style canned black lipped abalone to the Hong Kong market as well as farmed abalone in collaboration with their value chain partners.

Judges Comments:

Dover Fisheries clearly demonstrated a successful new product innovation which has allowed them to boost its export revenue through growing existing distributor sales and by entering new market segments. This has been achieved through sound research based product development which underpinned their move towards a chemical free natural product that has tapped into an identified demand for more natural products in its key markets. Dover Fisheries has an inclusive staff participation culture through extensive feedback systems from all employees, which is matched with data gained from existing clients and the wider end consumer market.
