Winner: Clean Seas Limited

Clean Seas Limited is globally recognised for its vision as one of the world’s leading producers of sustainable seafood. The successful breeding, hatching, growing and harvesting of Southern Bluefish Tuna in response to declining wild tuna numbers shows their unique innovation. Through extensive R&D and pilot programs with Kingfish and Mulloway, Clean Seas is the first business in the world to close the life cycle of Southern Bluefin Tuna, with 100 bred in captivity in 2009; this is expected to increase to 25’000 in 2010.

Judges Comments:

Clean Seas application was one of three very high standard entries, each of which demonstrated great passion for the product as well as genuine innovation. The development achieved by Clean Seas has the capacity to fundamentally alter the industry in which the business works. This entry is a great example of the development that can be achieved working with world leading researchers in a practical way.
