Clean Seas Limited is globally recognised for its vision as one of the world’s leading producers of sustainable seafood. The catch, tow and farming of live Southern Bluefin Tuna in response to declining wild tuna numbers, show their commitment to the sustainability of the industry. With 140 staff, Clean Seas are utilising world’s best practise from hatchery or egg to the plate. They recycle 1 million litres of water per hour, have rejuvenated local mangrove swamps, are the largest employers in their community and are working towards being carbon neutral.
Clean Seas have achieved the application of research and innovation to enable closure of the farmed Bluefin Tuna lifecycle. The achievement is underpinned by a certified environmental management system against the international environmental management system standard ISO 14001. This enables Clean Seas to support the sustainability of the Southern Bluefin Tuna fishery with their eventual aim of returning Southern Bluefin Tuna to the Southern Ocean. Their programs to address priority environmental impacts are supplemented by campaigns to address issues across the business with the environmental ethic evident from the signage throughout the hatchery and staff adherence to procedures. Clearly Clean Seas is a South Australian company that is setting the marine sustainability benchmark.
